What does it mean to be on a Fire Management team?

Hey everyone.  So here is a quick background about the Sun 3 Fire Management Team.  There are three fire management projects divided up between three of the four units at the Americorps NCCC Denver campus. Of the 4 project rounds, 2 and 4 will be the same fire management task. Fire management corps members go through the same training as all the other teams, but during their 2nd round project they begin training to get their certifications.  They have to pass a PAC test which involves being able to walk 3 miles in 45 minutes with a 45 lbs weighted vest.  Along with that they will have to complete a series of written tests to become what is known as "red carded."  Once red carded they can go out on wildfire responses and help out with a series of different tasks (ie: working fire lines, control burns, etc.)  Keep in mind this is only one aspect of the program itself.  This team has expressed an interest in wildfire response and tried out to be on this team.  There are still many other projects in NCCC but this blog is just about our personal experiences.  Thanks again for reading.
